First Session Summary:
Embracing Change – Alberta’s Legislation Update and How it Affects You!
This past year has seen many changes develop with the implementation of the New Alberta OHS Legislation for all our members and the Industry as a whole. The Alberta Government has completely updated the OHS Act, Code, and Regulations, introducing many new requirements; and as a result, the COR audit process also had to be completely reworked and expanded as the government changes required the program be changed from what was eight to ten elements. The AASP is very well positioned to support the industry in all these key areas.
Although these are all very positive changes, the result is that all training materials, online training courses, and internal processes need to be completely updated in order to continue to meet the New Legislation and industry requirements and still be able to maintain or achieve COR.
Second Session Summary:
Alberta’s Economy What to Expect for 2019 – a Perspective from Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist, ATB Financial.
Todd will present us with his unique and interesting perspective of the economic outlook for the year ahead to help you plan for your business successes. At ATB, Todd spends the bulk of his time sharing the story of Alberta’s economy in clear-eyed and energetic talks across the province and the rest of the country. A highly sought-after speaker, Todd presents at hundreds of events a year. He also provides frequent economic commentary for CBC, CTV, BNN and other local and national news outlets. Todd has written two books with co-author and ATB colleague Rob Roach, The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline and the latest, Spiders in Space: Successfully Adapting to Unwanted Change.

Losing Balance, Regaining Control: Alberta's Economy in 2017
We are excited to once again be hosting Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist, ATB Financial join us at our first ACSESS event of 2017 to provide us with his unique and interesting perspective of the economic outlook for the year ahead. Don't miss this special opportunity to see one of Calgary's premiere economists speak in an intimate setting at a fabulous venue.
It's been a challenging year for Alberta's economy, but is there a light at the end of the tunnel? The Canadian and global economies remain out of balance, which has weighed down confidence and commodity markets. Here in Alberta, economic stability was lost with a severe slump in oil prices – that's had a painful impact on employment for thousands in our province. But when things are out of balance, regaining control is key. How and when might Alberta's economy get back on track?
Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist, ATB Financial
Todd Hirsch is ATB Financial's Chief Economist. He holds a BA Honours in Economics from the University of Alberta and an MA in Economics from the University of Calgary. Don’t miss this special opportunity to see one of Calgary’s premiere economists speak in an intimate setting at a fabulous venue.
The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline
What creates wealth? Economic wealth isn’t created by oil and gas molecules in the ground, nor by an auto assembly plant. It isn’t created by tax credits or subsidies. It isn’t even created by economic development programs. Wealth starts with one thing: an idea. The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline argues that Canada in the 21st century is at risk of falling behind internationally. We need to seriously “up our game” in terms of creativity, innovation, risk taking, entrepreneurialism, cosmopolitanism, community and re-thinking environmental stewardship – or risk becoming economically irrelevant on the global stage.
