About a year ago, employers were struggling to change policies and practices to implement Bill 148's significant changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) and the Labour Relations Act, 1995 (LRA). Now, with the change in government and the passage of Bill 47, many of Bill 148's changes have been reversed or will be reversed effective January 1, 2019. About the Presenter:
Alan Riddell is the senior lawyer in our Employment, Labour and Public Law group in Ottawa. He has over 25 years of experience in advising on, and litigating, labour, employment, human rights and public law issues. He is fluently bilingual and practices law in both official languages. He has published, lectured and litigated extensively in the fields of labour and employment law, human rights law and public law.
Alan has appeared as counsel before many different administrative tribunals in the fields of labour and employment law, human rights and public law as well as in a number of reported cases in the Ontario Superior Court, Ontario Court of Appeal, and Federal Court of Appeal. In 1991 and 1992, he served as counsel and agent to the Deputy Minister of National Revenue on Employment Insurance appeals to the Tax Court of Canada.
